Borovets is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria. Situated at 1350 m above sea level on the northern slopes of Rila mountain among magnificent pine woods, Borovets is located at the foot of the highest peak on Balkan Peninsula Moussala (2925 m). Easily accessible from all over the country and only 73 km from Sofia and 126 km from Plovdiv, Borovets offers excellent opportunities for holidays throughout all the year.

Established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian tzars, Borovets gradually developed into a modern ski resort of high class and luxury hotels, haute - cuisine restaurants and varied leisure - time entertainment opportunities besides an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountain. Until 1942 the resort is called "Chamkoria".

Borovets is the Alpine resort among Bulgarian winter resort, providing excellent opportunities for the whole range of winter sports - from the Alpine sports to cross - country skiing, ski - jumps, snowboards and biathlon. Today Borovets is the biggest Bulgarian ski center in length and capacity of the ski slopes and facilities. Situated on the northern slopes of "Musalenskiya" ridge in the eastern part of the Rila Mountains. Huddled in the old pine woods, Borovets is the perfect place for winter sports and holidays.

During the warm months Borovets offers wonderful conditions for the rest of coolness and quietness of the century-old coniferous forests, meadows spangled with flowers and herbs, numerous lakes and snow-capped peaks. For lovers of nature resort is a preferred place and starting point of many tourist tours in the Rila Mountains. The climate is temperate in the resort, winter is mild and much snow. Borovets a desirable place for recreation and sport because of healthy climate and mild winter. The average temperature in January - the most cold month, is about 4,8 ° C. Ski season usually continues from mid-December to April.

The resort offers excellent conditions for winter sports: Alpine skiing, snowboard, cross-country skiing. Furthermore, in the high parts of Rila Mountain - Ski Center Markudzhik in high season snow reaches 2 meters - exceptional opportunities for extreme driving. Excellent opportunities are available here for practicing winter sports. Borovets was already twice hosted the World Cup Alpine skiing disciplines. These is runway for Biathlon, which is one of the best in the world. Well-developed network of lifts with up to 15 400 tourists per hour and provides access to all tracks.

Borovets taverns, bars and clubs come alive at night, particularly in the peak ski season, entertaining locals and visitors alike with good food, wine, folk singing and dancing. Most of these establishments are open till early morning, offering good prices and special "happy hour" discounts. Music played is mostly international dance music. Very often special shows are presented at the clubs. There are available restaurants and taverns with Bulgarian national folk music and "horo" dancing.
